My Cummins ISL 370
« on: November 27, 2014, 07:16:34 AM »
My 2004 Newmar DutchStar has an ISL 370 for an engine. I also see other Motor Homes with ISL 400 & ISL 450. As a newbie, I am assuming the 370 etc. reefers to the HP. Is there much of a difference in these engines & what increases the HP?

The ISL for RV applications in that vintage was offered in several variations:

370 HP
400 HP

With two stage engine compression brake
With no compression brake for use with exhaust brake

You might call Cummins with your engine serial number for more information: Cummins 800 343-7357

Agree, the newer ISLs are up to 450 HP and 1,250 ft/lbs of torque.  Any more torque and you must go from an Allison 3000 to an Allison 4000.
