Replacement battery cables

Last week when I was checking the water level in the battery's I noticed I had a cable end that was cracked. It apparently had ben thinned out by corrosion. It was to short to replace the end so I started searching for a new replacement. I was able to get the proper wiring sizes from Fleetwood. Finding replacement cables was an interesting search. I found that NAPA will custom make cables. My 24in cable cost 20.43 not bad for 1/0 cable. I have found another source for custom made cables. Bestboatwire.com.

I am going to give them a try as I think the cable is better quality as it is tined and they use shrink tube that makes the ends watertight.
Just thought I would share that info.

Bill, a 1/0 cable sounds a little light, the ones on my MH are 3/0. Grote makes heavy wall cable lugs as well as thinner ones, the only downfall with them is that they are too thick for a battery stud if you need to put 2 or more ends on one stud. Got tripped up on that when I redid my cable ends and had to use a copper buss bar to bind the cable ends to my new batteries.

Yes it sounds light but it is what Fleetwood specked for that cable. There are others that are 2/0 and 3/0. My coach battery bank is 4-6Volt and they use 1/0 between the battery's making up a 12Volt battery and the 2/0 between the "12Volt" battery's and 3/0 to the 300A fuse and to ground from the combined "12Volt" battery's.

Bill, it is also a good idea to keep all your interconnect cables equal length and make the power and ground connections kitty corner from each other. That will balance out the loads on each battery.

Bill, I'm curious, what size is your inverter.

My battery's are in that configuration from Fleetwood. I don't recall what size the inverter is. Next time I am at the coach I will look.

ZiggyH, Finley got to look at what inverter I have, it is Xantrex Freedom 458 and I believe it is rated at 2000.
