2000 Horizon with 300 hp Cat
« on: August 05, 2016, 10:41:58 AM »
I am looking at purchasing a 2000 Horizon with a 300 hp Cat. Are there any major shortcomings on a 2000 Cat 300 hp?

Yardmgr,

Welcome to the Diesel RV Club Forum.

The 2000 Cat 3126 is a good engine.  Of course how it has been maintained for the last 16 years will make a difference.

We have an 02 Journey DL 36' with the 330 CAT.  Bought it second hand about 5 years ago.  Absolutely love it.  Gobs of power for a coach of this size.  Our GVWR is about 26,800.  We have put about 40K miles on and average around 9mpg @ 61-62 mph.  This seems to be the sweet spot.  Tach reading about 1700rpm.

My mechanic told me that these engines really like fresh oil, so stick to the maintenance schedule and you'll be ok..
Hope this helps.
