Unwrapped fuel filter
« on: December 24, 2016, 09:23:05 AM »
I was given a fuel filter for my cat C7 by a friend who was trading in his RV. It is the correct filter for my engine ,but it was unwrapped, loose not in a carton. Can I still use it,if I rinse it in diesel fuel first or should I just toss it?

If this is a PRIMARY fuel filter, you can use it, though I would not take the chance.

If this is the SECONDARY fuel filter/only fuel filter, not worth the chance.

Remember, primary if the first filter the fuel gets to from the tank, the secondary is the last one before the engine/injection system.

Remember that some filters have a paper element which when exposd by removing wrapper are exposed to moisture and tend to deteriorate with time. I don't think it is wise to risk a $10,000 plus engine with, dubious condition filters, oil or fuel!   TOSS, EM
