Cummins ISL - Dummy Water Filters - Replacement interval
« on: February 28, 2017, 03:45:38 PM »
On the fourth year since changing ISL, QD8000 too, over to Final Charge. SCA water filter was replaced with a non SCA dummy water filter at that time.

I've been told by some, to replace the dummy water filter every two years. I've been told by others, to not worry about it, that it is more like a bypass filter in this application.

Sure I could call and talk with Cummins/Fleetguard - but curious what others have been told, and or are doing?

Thanks, and best to all,

There's an easy way to find out for sure.    Do a coolant analysis every year and it will tell you whether or not the filter has any affect on the coolant.    If the coolant does not contain SCAs (Supplemental Coolant Additives), then there's no need to add them through an SCA filter.    Do the annual coolant analysis and it will tell you.    Also, you'll know whether or not anything else is awry.
