President’s Paragraphs
by Ken Carpenter, President of DRVC
The Labor Day Holiday provides a turning point for many of because it signals the approaching transition
to fall weather and the time to make preparations for storing the coach. To others, it’s a time to prep the coach for the fall migration. In any case, it provides time to reflect on the bless- ings we’ve enjoyed in our travels, the
new friendships made, and experiences shared. We’ve added to our treasure of stories with new roads traveled with new vistas and sunsets.
Our summer business meeting was held in Madison, Wis- consin on Friday, July 31 with 90 members in attendance. The following officers were elected to two year terms expiring in the summer of 2017: Byron Songer, VP Pub- lishing, Tim Gerrity, Treasurer, and Tom Treece, Alternate National Director. In addition, the following members were elected to serve on the 2016 – 2016 Nominating Committee: Emily Brouillette, Susan Gerrity, Rod Kenly, Stan Kiefer, and Don Sturms. Please join me in extending congratulations to all and appreciation for their willing- ness to serve your chapter. Rod Kenly is serving as Chair of this committee as they seek candidates for those officer positions to be filled next summer: President, Secretary, VP Rally Coordinator, VP Technical and National Director. If you have an interest in any of these positions, please contact Rod at NominatingCommittee@DieselRVClub.org.
There is information later in this issue about the exciting rally being planned for next spring in Columbus, GA. The Rally in the Pines will be held at Lake Pines RV Park & Campground, Midland, GA (near Columbus), on February 26 - March 2, 2016. We are seeking Rally Hosts for this event. As a reminder, in recognition of the effort asked of Rally Hosts, the Chapter covers the costs of their rally fees. If you are interested in serving as a Rally Hosts, please inform Vern Weldy, VP Rally Master.
FMCA’s summer convention is to be held in West Spring- field, MA on August 2 - 7, 2016. We are now searching for a location of the Chapter’s summer rally to be held within 350 miles of that location. If you know of an ideal location,
please contact Vern Weldy. However, go ahead and mark your calendar now for the scheduled rally dates of Friday, July 15, through Wednesday, July 20, in 2016.
We’ve formed a committee to review and propose changes to the Chapter Bylaws, some of which have been made necessary by recent changes to FMCA’s policies related to allowing Chapters to decide how member voting can be conducted. The Committee will also look into timing and location of the annual business meeting as well as propos- ing changes to some of the officer positions. Rod Kenly will chair this committee. Other members are Tom Ber- nardi and Patrick Vance. Please feel free to contact them should you have comments or suggestions for improving the effectiveness of Chapter governance.
Members, I’d loke to remind you of the Club’s Membership Recruitment Incentive in which you’ll receive a $5 credit for each new member recruited. A membership applica- tion is included in this issue for your use in providing information about the Chapter and for registration of your friends and diesel motorhome acquaintances. Credits can be applied towards annual membership dues or chapter merchandise.
The Club is fortunate to have a number of Valued Partners offering discounts to active members. Among them are those whose ads are featured in this issue. We ask that you keep them in mind for your service and coach updating needs and to help you save money on coach insurance.
We wish you safe and happy travels.
