Extended Park w/ DP Question
« on: October 26, 2024, 12:14:26 PM »
Up front apologize if this info is posted elswhere, but I didn’t find anything when I searched for Extended Parking and maintenance.

We have a Spartan K2 chassis, 2019 Entegra Coach, and will be parked in our current camp spot through end of February 2025.
We have been here already since end of June without moving.  I had to start the coach a couple of times as we worked out house battery/inverter issue, but have not run it on the road.  I have just over a 1/4 tank of fuel.   I normally service the coach at a Cummins service center every September.  But this time I had to reschedule for Nov, and now thinking of pushing that back to Feb when we have
to move down further south Arizona for a RV event.

Is this a bad idea, or should I go ahead with the scheduled maintenance in Nov?  Not sure if having it sit for 8 months without driving and the fuel being at such low level will damage anything?  I have read to put fuel additive to the tank if putting in storage, so I guess having it sit for 8 months is like being. in storage.

Topperace,

Welcome to the Diesel RV Club.

It is better to store a diesel engine with clean oil vs old oil that may have acids built up in it, so I would have oil changed soon.  That will also give you a chance to drive it at least 25 highway miles to boil off moisture in the engine. You don't mention how many miles are on the oil that is in there, but if over 5,000 or so, I would have it changed.

It is best to store diesel with the tank full (to reduce condensation).  Add a biocide such as Biobar JF to prevent algae growth.  And, if filling with summer grade fuel and the coach will be going into below freezing conditions, add an anti-gel such as PS brand (at most Walmarts).

Strictly my opinion, but I would not change it.

I would drive it 25+ highway miles (to get rid of moisture in the engine and fill diesel tank as outlined above.
