To do list from Cummins: “Set overhead”
« on: October 30, 2024, 01:27:16 PM »
What was this service manager’s suggestion that all diesel owners do with certain regularity as stated in Topic above? We figured it had something to do with camshafts but I never saw the term used in any maintenance schedule.

"Setting overhead" on a Cummins engine refers to adjusting the clearance between the engine's valve train components, a routine service also known as a valve adjustment.

The interval at which this should be done varies by engine family and will be in your engine owner's manual and on-line at Cummins.
