FMCA Update
Results of FMCA Governing Board Meeting in Indy
The Governing Board met in Indianapolis to act on a number of proposals and to elect a slate of Executive Officers for FMCA. The positions voted on were: National President, National Senior Vice President, National Secre- tary, and National Treasurer.
The results are as follows:
• National President - Jon Walker
• National Senior Vice President - Rett Porter • National Secretary - Gaye Young
• National Treasurer - John Reynolds
Verizon Data Plan
The plan initially offered by the FMCA to attract new members was withdrawn after implementation because it was determined that a nonprofit government organization (which is how the FMCA is classified) does not qualify for benefits offered by the plan. New arrangements are being worked on but it is too early to know what the new plan will offer or when it will be available.
Chandler Update
The financial update was given on the Chandler rally. A re-clarification was made to state that FMCA did not lose money on the rally nor was the level of profit as antici- pated.
Location Updates
Pomona should be considered as an option for 2019 winter rally despite the usually small draw to that area and the fact that the FMCA has never had a profitable rally there. The last one drew only 900 coaches but the committee felt the low turn out was due to a lack of promotion. The com- mittee felt that it was still very important for the FMCA to have a rally somewhere on the west coast. An amendment was made that would allow the executive board to negoti- ate for a suitable new location in the western portion of the continent.
Redmond was approved for the 2020 rally.
Proposed Amendments
The following three bylaws amendments were proposed:
Proposal #1 – Any voting FMCA member, other than a member who is employed by or holds a management inter-
est in an RV-related association or company, is eligible
for election to the Executive Board. Members who share a member number may not serve concurrent (simultaneous) terms on the Executive Board.
The proposal was defeated.
Proposal #2 – Membership shall be open to any family unit or individual regardless of race, sex, gender identity (including gender expression), sexual orientation, religion, color, marital or family status, age nationality, disability, or political beliefs.
The proposal was defeated.
Proposal #3 – The proposal is too long to fully restate here. The proposal would allow a qualified group of recreational vehicle owners to become full members of FMCA.
Much time was spent on defining “recreational vehicle” since one was not given ahead of time. The Executive Board felt the definition should be something the Govern- ing Board should do. FMCA’s procedural guidelines were voted on and approved to allow the definition and the pro- posal to be implemented this year which will allow FMCA to begin accepting the new members as early as December if approved by the general membership. Otherwise, even with approval by the membership, FMCA would have to wait until Wyoming which would be the earliest time the process could be made official and begin accepting the new members of units other than motorhomes. If the Govern- ing Board voted to approve the proposal a ballot would then be sent to the entire membership base to be voted on. It would be a mail-in ballot that runs for three months in the FMCA magazine.
The following definition of RV was adopted: The term “recreational vehicle” as used herein, is defined as a self- contained, wheeled vehicle that includes permanently installed cooking, sleeping, and sanitary facilities.
The outcome of the vote was 226 for and 48 against, exceeding the 65 percent that was needed for approval. The proposal to allow towable RVs, using the agreed upon definition of an RV, will now be sent to the general mem- bership for a vote.
